Kate

Kate is a Nova Scotia native transplanted to Rhode Island by way of her father’s career in oceanography. Prior to opening Root, Kate spent over a decade managing a bustling bar in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. Kate is responsible for quality control, menu development, and supply chain operations of the business. With extensive experience in the food industry and a Masters in Business Administration from URI, Kate is driven to ensure the continued growth and success of Root.

Paul

A native of Cranston, Rhode Island, Paul is now a Newport local. Paul spent over three decades managing his family jewelry import business. Paul values relationships with customers, taking time to welcome customers and ensure an enjoyable and one-of-a-kind experience. Paul is passionate about building meaningful relationships through exceptional customer service.

Amazing service and so many options. From smoothies, to bowls, to desserts, and even high quality coffees. This place is amazing. Everything they carry is 100% plant based. The first thing I tried was the Smooshy Avocado Toast. Comes with a ton of avocado (yum!) and the veggies on the side so you can put on as much, or as little, vegetables as you would like. My new favorite items have been the grain bowls. The Glow Bowl is so so good! I’ve brought my 5 year old sister, who orders the Almond Joy Toast. The perfect amount of sweetness for both the adults and kids! Great way to get her to eat healthy. The owner even comes out to our table when we dine-in and makes sure we enjoy the food. Definitely my go-to place for quality plant-based meals.

Cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough! 10/10 across the board – great food, super fast, fresh ingredients and the friendliest service. We each got a bowl and they were delicious! We tried the Arriba, Greek Goddess and Glow Bowl and all were great. We will be back to try a smoothie, oatmeal or toast – we saw others ordering them and they looked great. Our food was ready within minutes and the man who served us was very kind and thanked us for coming and offered us recs for our visit in Newport. Will definitely recommend Root to anyone looking for a healthy and super great tasting meal!

This cafe has the best plant-based menu. I’m in town for two weeks of training and have visited four times so far. The Arriba! Arriba! Bowl is absolutely delicious. But I was blown away by the coconut BLT and chickpea salad sandwiches. Perfection. Lots of smoothies and breakfast bowls available, as well as delicious hot and cold drinks, including an iced caramel chocolate oat-based nitro coffee and “dreamer” which has lavender. Since I don’t drink coffee, they made it with just oat milk. Very accommodating owner and staff. They have veggie puffs snacks to accompany your meal, as well as sweet baked goods like rocky road brownies and strawberry oat bars. Both are drool worthy. (They also offer a military discount.). Can’t recommend this place enough!

This is such a cute little place to stop by and nourish yourself after a lovely walk by the beach. Perfect place to get amazing and healthy food with fresh ingredients. Their menu is so original and diverse! Fun place to explore.

This place is so good!! The avocado toast is fantastic and they have so many delicious and healthy food options. I love their açaí bowls too. You can order online and pick up too if you are in a rush which is great during lunch time. The staff is so friendly and kind. Highly recommend!
